# If I use the child-resistant zipper, can I say my pouch is "child-resistant"?

While our compostable, child-resistant zippers (manufactured by [Fresh-Lock®](https://fresh-lock.com/product/compostable-zippers)) will certainly help make your product packaging meet standards for child-resistance, using the zipper does not automatically make your overall product packaging “child-resistant”.

Your finished pouch design itself must also meet the necessary requirements, and it should undergo its own research and lab testing to be certified child-resistant by the [US Consumer Product Safety Commission](https://www.cpsc.gov/Regulations-Laws--Standards/Statutes/Poison-Prevention-Packaging-Act/Child-Resistant-and-Senior-Friendly-Packages-packaging-guide). This step, which can be costly, should be completed before making any specific child-resistant claim on your pouch design.

The Child Resistant Zipper can be tricky to open. Here's a [How To](/hc/en-us/articles/37299649933453) article for more information.
